Hard slate tiles are some of the most durable roofing materials because of their properties to weather resistance and fire resistance. It typically lasts longer than its counterpart and is more expensive than soft slate. Hard tiles can last upwards of 100 years with some manufactures guaranteeing warranty for anywhere from 50-100 years. It is also not uncommon for hard slate roof tiles to last longer than that. 

Soft slate tiles roofs are the downgraded version of hard tiles, and with the reduced price, you still receive the weather resistance and fire resistance but not as durable as the hard tile. That said, soft slate roofs can be just what you need with less cost while still being able to handle all weather conditions. Soft slate roofs can last just as long as hard slate tile roofs.

Slate tile roofs are great for repealing weather conditions, but proper care of the roof is still needed and making sure that all areas of the roof aren’t pooling water underneath or other damages under the tile.
