A copper roof is a wonderful addition to your home for a variety of reasons but with that, how should you take care of your copper roof?
Like most roofs, there isn’t a ton of work involved with maintaining a great-looking roof. Depending on the style of roof you have you may have to do more or less.
Typically with a copper roof, you have to do less. Copper roofs have a very unique finish on them so scrubbing hard or pressure washing them would not be a good idea to keep it looking great.
By scrubbing or power washing it can remove its natural protection causing it to lose its finish or color.
Like with most smooth surfaced roofs a good way to clean your copper roof is by hosing down your roof with water that’s not too powerful and getting rid of any debris, bird droppings, or other accumulated things.
However, if you want to do the most for your copper roof and keep it looking brand new every so often there is more you can do.
To keep the surface of your copper roof shiny, you can use citrus-based cleaning products and a soft brush that will allow you to almost polish off your roof. Many stores have copper cleaning products but your best bet will be asking your roofing company that installed it what the best product would be for your roof.
While this will keep your roof looking brand new and shiny, using that specific cleaner will be required every so often so the copper doesn’t oxidize and turn green.
